ABOUT UNCLE'S YARD "BRITAINT'S"
BRITAINT'S: Is Our Culture is an ongoing project by Uncle’sYardArchive exploring British identity, diaspora and cultural hybridity through the fusion of flags.
Each design brings the Union Jack together with the colours and symbols of another flag, creating a new visual language that reflects the intertwined cultures and histories that make up Britain today.
The project began with 44 Commonwealth countries and has since grown to more than 150 flag fusions. What started as a response to the recent "raise the colours" movement has become an exploration of what Britishness can look like when we acknowledge the cultures that have always been woven into it.
At a time when the Union Jack has, for many, become a symbol of division, each Britain't flag fusion is a small but intentional celebration of the woven cultures that make Britain what it is today; a tapestry, if you will, of the many communities that contribute to Britain's ever-evolving cultural landscape.
